Jacksonville’s Mathews Bridge is set for an eastbound directional shutdown this weekend, as announced by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This closure is part of an ongoing rehabilitation effort to enhance the bridge’s structural integrity and serviceability.
Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, the eastbound lanes of Mathews Bridge will be closed to traffic, with a scheduled reopening at 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8. This temporary closure is crucial for the safety and efficiency of the rehabilitation works, provided the weather and other unforeseen conditions remain favorable.
During this period, drivers heading eastbound will be rerouted via the Hart Bridge. This detour is designed to minimize disruption and ensure a smooth flow of traffic around the construction zone. In addition, the westbound inside travel lane of the bridge will also be closed, although the westbound outside travel lane will remain open, allowing for continued vehicle movement in that direction.
