A solemn morning unfolded near the campus of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, as a shooting incident tragically claimed the life of one man and left two others gravely wounded. The Tallahassee Police Department, who are currently spearheading the investigation, were called to the scene in the 600 block of Famcee Avenue around 9:45 a.m. on Friday.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, one of the men succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. The other man, as of the latest update, is still in the hospital battling serious injuries.
In a subsequent development, a third man, also suffering from gunshot wounds linked to the same incident, arrived at a local hospital. His current condition remains uncertain.
The shooting, which took place in an area nestled between Pasco Street and Wahnish Way, occurred less than a block from FAMU’s campus. Despite the proximity, a FAMU spokesperson assured Jax Daily News that the campus was not placed on lockdown and there were no plans to do so.
The Tallahassee Police Department has confirmed that all parties involved in the shooting have been identified. This assurance comes as a relief, as there is no lingering threat to public safety. The department’s spokesperson, Heather Merritt, however, noted that no arrests have been made yet.
This incident was also reflected in the Tallahassee Online Police Statistics map, a tool that monitors calls through the dispatch center. The map recorded an event labeled “assist other agencies” on the same block around 9:51 a.m. on Friday.
The Tallahassee Police Department emphasizes that this remains an active and ongoing investigation. They are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact them at 850-891-4200, to assist in piecing together the events of this tragic morning.
