JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars’ season concluded in a disheartening fashion, missing the playoffs after a decisive 28-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans, culminating in a painful end to a season filled with high hopes.
Entering December with playoff aspirations and a shot at the AFC’s top seed, the Jaguars’ descent was dramatic and unexpected. The final blow came in the must-win game against the Titans, where Jacksonville, once standing at 9-8, fell short, handing the AFC South title to Houston.
The focus now shifts to the Jaguars’ management and owner Shad Khan, as they grapple with the repercussions of the team’s late-season collapse. Losing five of their last six games, the Jaguars face an offseason of introspection and rebuilding.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s comeback from a shoulder injury was marked by mixed results. Despite a touchdown pass, his two interceptions and a failed fourth-and-goal attempt were critical setbacks. The Titans, leveraging the talents of Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears, effectively managed the clock, leaving the Jaguars scrambling in the game’s final moments.
Jacksonville’s attempt at a second-half comeback was highlighted by a Lawrence touchdown pass to Evan Engram. However, missed opportunities and defensive lapses, particularly against Tennessee’s potent running attack, proved costly.
The Titans’ consistent performance, led by Henry’s 153 rushing yards, overshadowed Jacksonville’s efforts. Key moments, including a pivotal interception by the Jaguars before halftime, were not enough to turn the tide in their favor.
Despite the season’s disappointing end, individual milestones for the Jaguars offer a silver lining. Defensive standout Travon Walker, the previous year’s first overall draft pick, recorded his 10th sack, signaling promise for his future. Similarly, tight end Evan Engram’s season was statistically impressive, placing him second in NFL history for receptions by a tight end.
