In a tragic turn of events in St. Johns County, a 45-year-old man from Jacksonville lost his life in an early morning crash on New Year’s Eve. The incident occurred on Interstate 95 near mile marker 321.5 around 3 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was heading south in a sedan when his vehicle unexpectedly veered off the highway onto the right shoulder.
At that location, a 31-year-old woman from St. Augustine was inside her disabled sports utility vehicle parked on the roadside. The Jacksonville man’s sedan collided with the SUV, causing it to be pushed into the center lane of the highway.
The collision resulted in the tragic death of the man at the scene, while the woman in the SUV sustained minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into this unfortunate incident.
