In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, law enforcement agencies in Jacksonville and Nassau County have successfully apprehended over 50 individuals. This operation, part of a broader effort to combat illegal activities, has brought to light the ongoing issue of human trafficking in the region.
Simultaneously, Daytona Beach Police conducted a focused operation against prostitution, resulting in the arrest of 16 individuals over the weekend. The sting operation, implemented in two phases, targeted both sex workers and their clients. On the first day, attention was directed towards those engaged in prostitution, leading to the arrest of seven women on various related charges. Among them were Sandra Pulak, Kara Pennington, Jennifer Lahive, Katheleen Mercado, ShoniaJean Ford Lajoie, Michelle Olivieri, and Joleen Nicole Farwell. Notably, Pennington and Lahive have faced multiple arrests in the past, with a history of drug-related and prostitution charges.
The following day, the police shifted focus to apprehend those seeking prostitution services, culminating in nine more arrests. The individuals, including Terrell Hadden, David Wilson, Calvin Jackson, Rodney Smith, David McAndrew, Thomas McManus, Alan Waddell, Jester Mombu, and Jerome Smith, faced charges for soliciting lewd acts. Noteworthy among these were additional charges of drug possession for McAndrew, Waddell, and others.
This operation, particularly significant due to the number of arrests made during daylight hours, highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address the issue of human trafficking and prostitution in the area. The Daytona Police’s proactive approach, especially in areas known for such illegal activities like Ridgewood Avenue, underscores their commitment to community safety and the eradication of these crimes. As stated by Capt. Scott Lee, while some operations yield fewer arrests, this particular sting was remarkably successful, reflecting the seriousness with which authorities are tackling these issues.
